Second Stanza
"This like a dream
Keeps other time
And daytime is
The loss of this,
For time is inches
And the heart's changes
Where ghost has haunted
Lost and Wanted"
FIRST STANZA
The Thesis
Conclusion
Do not let the fear of failure stand in the way of love.
proven through tones:
wonder
inevitability
freedom
imprisonment
caution and hope
structure, rhyme, personification, similes, and metaphors
Third Stanza
"But this was never
A ghost's endeavor
Nor finished this,
Was ghost at ease,
And till it pass
Love shall not near
The sweetness here
Nor sorrow take
His endless look."

Meaning
One must be prepared for the risks of dreaming and loving another
Until one accepts sorrow and lays old dreams to rest the beauty of love cannot flourish.

Basic Structure
Thesis
1st Stanza
2nd Stanza
3rd Stanza
Conclusion
Introduction:
The poem has a lyrical feeling created by the rhythm and rhyme.
I selected this poem because of the lyrical nature of "this lunar beauty.
Reading:

This lunar beauty
Has no history
Is complete and early,
If beauty later
Bear any feature
It had a lover
And is another.

This like a dream
Keeps other time
And daytime is
The loss of this,
For time is inches
And the heart's changes
Where ghost has haunted
Lost and wanted
But this was never
A ghost' endeavor
Nor finished this,
Was ghost at ease,
And till it pass
Love shall not near
The sweetness here
Nor sorrow take
His endless look.
"and till it pass
love shall not near
the sweetness here
nor sorrow take
his endless look"
Basic Structure
Three stanzas
one sentence long
exemplifies (birth, life, death)
has an unstructured rhyme scheme
"This lunar beauty
Has no history
Is complete and early,
If beauty later
Bear any feature
It had a lover and is another."
If there was an embodiment of beauty it would at first be a pure/innocent woman with no history to define her while still being mature. Soon that beauty would become a lover and no longer be pure and innocent
Metaphor
:
Lunar Beauty is a woman with no history
represents the concept of beauty
Imagery:
"Lunar Beauty"
white, innocent, pure
a full grown female
"has no history"
she is a blank but open book
"If beauty later bear any feature"
beauty inevitably leads to love
Metaphor
if a woman were to embody beauty she would be innocent and pure
the woman would then become a lover
Establishes the inevitability of the past leading to a need for:
companionship
love
passion
Two Messages:
the transformation from innocent to lover is like a dream
cannot be measured
Time is a measurement which never varies even though emotions do
Tone:
Freedom vs. Confinement
"where ghost haunted lost and wanted"
Freedom - Metaphors
"this like a dream"
"daytime is the loss of this"
Confinement
"time is inches"
Established
Time has progressed
daytime
ghosts
The Lunar Beauty has a history
she is no longer innocent
Dreams are not created for sorrow.
When a dream is cast away it is not forgotten.
Until a dream or a past love is forgotten new love cannot be found.
When one risks letting love in one risks experiencing immense sorrow.

Established
tone is cautionary and inevitable
"love shall not near the sweetness here nor sorrow take his endless look"
