To This Day
Lesson of the Moth
In the poem "Lesson of the Moth",the quote, "it is better to be happy for a moment and be burned up with beauty than to live a long time and be bored all the while." is true. It is better to live life with thrill rather than being board.

Dream Deferred
One of the best lines from this poem is,''as if broken bones hurt more than the names we got called." This quote says that calling people names is mean and can cause a person to have lots of depression. It also explains that people can hurt a person more with their words than with violence.

In "A Dream Deferred", the poet describes what dreams are like when they are given up. In a series of memorable lines, the poet gives many similes, comparing the given up dream to other things.
"What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?"
Postponed dreams are just sitting there, waiting for someone to fulfill them. After a while, the dreams start to rot and dry up, giving up on waiting.
Other lines, like
"Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load."
Given up dreams are still there, but they gain weight and weigh you down with guilt for not pursuing them. When you give up on a dream, it haunts you and makes you feel terrible.
