Rick Ross was born, William Leonard Roberts II, January 28, 1976 in Coahoma County Mississippi, and raised in Carol City, Florida.
Shortly after graduating from Carol City, Florida, he attended Albany State University on a football scholarship.
Ross’ stage moniker is named after notorious drug kingpin, FreeWay Ricky Ross, who made a name for himself traffic narcotics in the late 1980’s in L.A, California.
He entered the "family business" and began selling crack cocaine when he was just twelve.
His crack operation grew to gross over $5,000 a day, but he saw rap as a way to get out of the game and performed rhymes at parties.
According to 50 Cent, beef started with Ja Rule and Murder Inc. when Ja Rule was robbed by a neighborhood acquaintance of 50 Cent's.
