The Link Between Animal Abuse and Serial Killers
By. Tametris Morrison
Millions of innocent animals die every year due to animal abuse and neglect. "Abusing an animal is a way for a human to find power, joy, and fulfillment through the torture of an animal that they know cannot defend itself."
Teacher: Mrs. Harro

A.) What does the word "serial killer mean"?
A serial killer is a person or persons that go out killing people seriously one after another.
B.) What do you do in a case of a child abusing his/her pets?
Ask the family to protect the animal from the child. Try to get a better understanding of why the child is harming the animal in the first place. The child who is abusing the animals may be a danger to small children.
C.) As a Christian, how do you feel about serial killers?
I feel like they are bad people. It's a manifestation of fallen culture. The behavior reflects a mental and spiritual problem.
D.) What is the first step to finding the reason(s) why the patient abuses the animal?
Ask most children under ten, and they will tell you that they don't know-- and they may be telling the truth. However, those over ten years of age, should be able to give a reason for their thoughts and actions.
A few clips of my days at SPCA
Born on May 23, 1950 in Santa Clara County, California.
At the age of 10, Chase displayed three known warning signs of children who grow to become serial killers: bed-wetting beyond the normal age, cruelty to animals and setting fires
During his teenage years his mental disorder intensified
After turning 18, Richard moved out from his parent's home and in with a roommate. His roommate was unconformable with all Richards drug intake and asked him to move out.
Isolated, Chase's obsession with his health and bodily functions heightened
He suffered from constant paranoid episodes and would often end up at the hospital emergency room in search of help
He was diagnosed as being a paranoid schizophrenic and spent a short time under psychiatric observation, but was soon released
Chase felt he had found the cure, he would kill and disembowel small animals and eat the various parts of the animals raw
In 1975, Chase suffering from blood poisoning after injecting the blood of a rabbit into his veins, was involuntarily hospitalized and diagnosed with schizophrenia
His psychosis remained intact and after he was found with two dead birds with their heads cut off and blood sucked out
Incredibly, by 1976 his doctors decided he was no longer a threat to society and released him to the care of his parents. His mother made the decision that Chase no longer needed the anti-schizophrenia medications, so she stopped giving him the pills
She also helped him find an apartment, paid his rent and bought his groceries
Killed a pregnant lady by the name of Teresa Wallin and her husband at their home
Shot Teresa three times, then raped her corpse while stabbing her several times with a butcher knife. He then removed multiple organs, cut off one of her nipples and drank the blood
Before leaving, he collected dog feces from the yard and stuffed it into the victim's mouth and down her throat
He would kill and disembowel small animals and ate the various parts of the animals raw
Injected the blood of a rabbit into his veins
He was found with two dead birds with their heads cut off and blood sucked out.
Escalated from the need for animal organs and blood, to human organs and blood
Collected dog feces from the yard and stuffed it into a victim's mouth and down her throat
Curious about sex
Sex with his half-brother and with dead animals
Mother prostituted out of the home
Mother killed any animals that he tried to keep as a pet
Mother beat him so badly that he lost his sight in one eye
Mother put him in a coma for three days
"Uncle Bernie" showed him how to hunt and kill animals
What is the link between animal abuse and serial killers?
emper was born in Burbank, California, to Clarnell Stage and Edmund Emil Kemper Jr.
Very intelligent with an IQ of 136
Displayed sociopathic behavior from a young age
Tortured and killed animals, acted out bizarre sexual rituals with his sisters' dolls
Kemper's mother, berated and humiliated
Fantasized about being executed by electric chair and would often enact it as a game with his sisters
His emotionally abusive mother would often lock him in the basement , for she feared he would rape the younger siblings.
At age 14, was sent to live with his paternal grandparents
Shot his grandparents to see how killing someone would feel
After being arrested, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and placed in mental care at the StatesHospital for the Criminally Insane.
He surprisingly got along well with his psychiatrist and was even made his assistant.
Ed Kemper is still (February 2011) serving his sentence at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville and has his next parole hearing scheduled in 2012
When it comes to those who abuse animals, this should raise a serious concern resulting in having the person evaluated. Studies have proven that there is linkage between animal abusers and serial killers.
Many studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last 25 years have revealed that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty.
In fact, the American Psychiatric Association considers animal cruelty one of the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder.
"Rape is a way that humans exert power, joy, and fulfillment through the torture of a victim that they know cannot defend themselves.
Child abuse is a way for a human to find power, joy, and fulfillment through the torture of a victim they know cannot defend themselves."
Do you see the pattern here?
The line separating an animal abuser from someone capable of committing human abuse is much finer than most people care to consider. People abuse animals for the same reasons they abuse people. Some will stop with animals, but many have been proven to continue to commit violent crimes it's worth paying attention to.
