What is Pegi?
The Pan European Game Information age rating system was established to help European parents make educated decisions on purchasing video games.It was launched in Spring 2003 and replaced various age rating systems with a single system.
PEGI is created and owned by ISFE and was established in 1998 to represent the interests of the interactive software sector with reagrd to the EU and international institutions.

What are ratings?
The age ratings that appear on games, DVDs, films and videos are a system of ensuring that the content being made available for the public is clearly labeled by age according to the content they contain.

The PEGI labels appear on front and back of the packaging indicating one of the following age levels: 3, 7, 12, 16 and 18.
They provide a reliable indication of the suitability of the game content in terms of protection of children and young people.
What do the labels mean?
Descriptors shown on the back of the packaging indicate the main reasons
a game has received a particular age rating.
How does the rating process work?
Before release publishers complete an online assessment & declaration form:
Consider the presence of violence,sex & other sensitive visual
PEGI assign a provisional age rating along with content distributors & specify why it has been assigned the rating.
The PEGI administrator must examine the game and ensure it adheres to the PEGI criteria.

What Is The PEGI Code?
PEGI is built on a code of conduct which publishers are contractually committed to follow.
This consists of ; age labeling,
promotion,advertising & are committed to provide the public with information.
In order to do so various boards & committees have been established to achieve these aims.

PEGI OK means that the game can be safely played by players of all ages.

How effective is the game rating system?
It is illegal to "supply" a game for "reward" to an individual who is under the stated age rating. It is not illegal for a parent or third party to purchase a game for a child who is under the stated age.

PEGI ratings are based on the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty or skills required.
