Founded in 1971 as the Pretoria Film School by film director Jamie Uys to train technicians for the film and television industry 3 years
before the introduction of television into South Africa in 1974.
Recognized since as the Film School of South Africa.
All university courses, from National Diploma through to B-tech, M-tech and D-tech are accredited by South Africa’s Council of Higher Education Quality Committee, also based in Pretoria/Tshwane.
TUT: the largest University in terms of student intake of its kind in Africa
