Sarah's

Key SARAH'S SUMMARY AND CHARCTERS JULIA'S SUMMARY AND CHARCTERS Book Written By: Tatiana De Rosnay The Dilemma of the Story: 3 lessons that I have
learned from
Sarah's Key: 1. Never lock your brother in a cupboard

2. Be gracious and loving to those who help you

3. Marriage can be a blessing and a hateful curse Characters in Sarah's story:
Sirka (Sarah) Starzynski; 10 years old; lives at
26 rue de Saintonge, 75003 Paris
Wladslaw Starzynski; around 32 years old
Rywka Starzynski; around 30 years old
Michel Starzynski; 4 years old
Jules and Geneviève Defaure; ages unknown; lives somewhere near Sarah's camp Summary
10 year old Sarah Starzynski and her parents are taken to the Velodrome De Hiver. While there, they witness and experience horrifying, disgusting and inhuman conditions. After the men were separated from the women and children, the officers split up the children from the mothers and were sprayed with water. They had their clothes stripped from their bodies, and then were sent to different camps. Not knowing where her parents were, Sarah decided to escape the camp with a new friend she had met.

After days of running, sickness and starvation, an elderly couple by the names of Jules and Geneviève take them in and feed and bathe them. Sarah's friend dies of illness and is taken by the French Police. The Dufaure's decide to take Sarah back to Paris to find her brother. In the apartment that Sarah had lived in, a new family resides and shares the horrific scene of Sarah Starzynski's return. Recommendations:
I would highly recommend this book to:

people who enjoy the switching of the point of view in a book
someone who can pronounce French words, or know what they are
people who can withstand some cussing
big history lovers Characters:
Julia Jarmond Tezac; married a french man; has 1 child; is around 45 years old; writes for a magazine; soon to live at 26, rue de Saintonge, 75003 Paris
Bertrand Tezac; Julia's husband; Almost 50; is an architect and remodeling the apartment where they soon move into
William Ransferd; Sarah's son; has no clue about his mother's past
Edouard Tezac; Julia's father-in-law; was a member of the family who moved into the apartment after Sarah's family is taken Summary
Julia writes for a magazine in Paris. The 60th anniversary of the Velodrome De Hiver Round up was approaching. That was her new assignment. But what she didn't know was that her story had already been written from the secrets her apartment held.

After beginning research, her life turns upside down when she finds her father-in-law's deepest secret. While dealing with her own life and marriage problems, Sarah Starzynski becomes her biggest priority. Sarah trying to get back to her brother in the cupboard.
Julia trying to find Sarah.
And Julia dealing with her own problems and life. This book goes back and forth between 2 stories. One of Sarah, and her life in 1942. And Julia's story in 2002, and the deep secret that lies between them. THE END! Getting to know the characters:

Sarah: Very dedicated to her family and friends. Loves her brother more than anything.
Julia: Very modest, humble, loves her daughter(s). Very American.
Bertrand: Not loyal to one woman, very french.
Edouard: A hard to forget man, loves his family, secretive, hard to see his emotions. Sarah is like a premature lion. Her brother is the other baby lion, they don't know what to expect from the world. But as Sarah becomes older, her emotions change. She hides all of her feeling inside and you never know what she's thinking. Julia is as if she is a unique bird. As men and the world try to use their natural instincts to impress her, she keeps to herself and cares only for her and her children in a non- conceded way.
