Why do we use it?
Is the robotic end effector multi-functional? If so, what other tasks can it perform
This robotic's end effector is multi-functional, for example the arm can throw cinderblocks and grenades. The arm can also pick up terrain such as small terrain and rocks to get them out of the way. The BigDog is the alpha male of the Boston Dynamics robot.
What is BigDog?
BigDog is a rough terrain robot that was created by Boston Dynamics and D.A.R.P.A. This robot walks, runs, climbs and carries heavy loads.
How is the Robot taught to perform it's task?
The robot is taught to follow human voice commands. The BigDog is controlled by a computer that keeps it navigational and balanced. The BigDog can also be controlled by a system of "Follow the Leader" where the human has a tracking device and the BigDog finds a path to get to the human.

BigDog was designed for the milatary and was used as a mule for carry heavy loads. This helped out the soilders that had to cross rough terrain with a lot of weight on their backs. With the BigDog, soilders can now focus more on the terrain than on the weight that they are carrying. The BigDog has multiple functions and has a lot of flexibility to cross rough areas. It was designed to withstand the force of almost any environment.
What sensors does the robot have and how does the robot use these sensors?
BigDog has a stereo vision system and a control system. This helps the robot with joint position, joint force, ground load, and ground contact. THe BigDog can sense different terrain depending on what the control of the leader does.
What is the impact that this robot has had on its intended audience?
It has releived soldiers from having to carry heavy loads and has been greatly appreciated by milatary individuals. It has also attracted many people that have looked at BigDog as the new technology of the future.
What type of jobs/careers can this robot create to provide employment for people?
Some different careers that BigDog can make are Software Perception Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, Advanced Electrical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Electrical Engineering Technician, Helpdesk Technician, and Electrical Engineering Co-Op.
Predict and explain how this robot may be altered to perform more or different tasks in the future?
The BigDog can prefrom dengerous tasks for example: going into battlefield and carrying heavy materials, food, supplies, can run for up to 3 hours, and can carry what we can not carry. In the future, BigDog can be valueble to people because it can be able to carry groceries, vehicle and equipment. The future can allow improvment where the robot can go anywhere as animals act. Also, it will be created with eye-like sensors that allow it to become "unleashed" by making clever decisions about a journey. Boston Dynamics have said that it will be soon be succeeded by creating a even faster, stronger model.
