Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia.

His hometown was Atlanta and grew up their as a child with both his father and grandfather being pastors.

His parents’ names were Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King.
Martin Luther King Jr Death
Martin Luther King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

His killer's name is James Earl Ray.
Martin's Life
Born in Atlanta to a middle class family.
Both his father and grandfather were pastors in their local church.
Probably his most well known speech was the speech of 1963, “I Have a Dream.”
He and his wife, Coretta Scott King, moved to Montgomery Alabama, in 1953.
He had a terrible death by being assassinated in Memphis.
Malcolm X Birth
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska.
He changed his last name from Little to X, because he thought that Little was a slave name.
His mother, Louise Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family's eight children.
His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey.

Both men went
to jail. Both were
assassinated at the age of 39,
and fought
to stop segregation but in different ways.
Malcolm encouraged other African American people to fight against the injustice using violence.
He was born a slave.
Martin was a more of a pacifists
which meant that he didn’t like
violence and didn’t use it in his
protests.

Martin was born into a middle class family.
Malcolm's Life
Malcolm X was born in 1925.
His original last name was Little but he changed it to X because he thought Little was a slave name.
His family was split up after his father was killed, and lived in foster homes for most of his childhood.
He was a small time criminal in Boston and New York City as a teenager. He was arrested when he was 20 for robbery and was sentenced to jail for 8-10 years.
While in prison he joined the Nation of Islam and when released from prison in 1952 he was a changed man.
He was assassinated during one of his speeches by one of the Nation of Islam members.
