By Carter Moss and Nautica Johnson Delhi Sultanate Religion Language Government system Colonization problems Technology Women Rich and poor differences The Delhi sultanate followed Islam. As for their relations with other religions. They looted Hindu,Buddhist,and jews of their Gold. Hindus conververted to Islam during this time and brought the caste system with them. After the Delhi sultanate the Mughals were a Muslim group of leaders decended from Genghis Khan Ruling over a majority hindu population. The Delhi sultanate was an monorchay that spanned 5 dynastys. The mamluk, The khilji, The Tughlaq, The Sayyid, and the Lodhi. The Mughal empire was an absoulute monoarchy with a federal structure. Which spanned 2 rulers Babur Beg and Bahadur shah II. The Delhi sultanate used Water irrigation systems. The mughal had the celestial globe, allcali, soaps, volley gun, Rockets. all kinds of stuff really During the Lodhi Dynasty the first portugese armada(Vasco De Gama) landed in india and invaded neighboring states and blocked trading ports. Women had a position of respect but had their freedom limited. They were entirely dependant on their fathers, husbands or male relatives. They were secluded in their homes and veils to cover the face became prevalent both in Muslim and Hindu families.Women were free to get an education and many women from higher classes excelled in the arts and science. Peasant women had more freedom mostly for economic reasons The inhuman practice of a widow burning herself on her husbands funeral pyre was increasingly taking place amongst certain classes. The Differences between rich and poor was vast. While the rich were living the life of luxury, the poor were just able to make ends meet. Slavery became prevalent but suprisingly they were taken care of and were usually set free after some years. Many former slaves rose to political power and social eminence. However as it will always be slavery was still a negative aspect of society to the sultanate The Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal empire spoke persian for thier official launguage. The general public spoke Chagatai Turkic initially and then started to use Urdu. Connections with other Regions Due to connections with other regions they had a Indian cultural renaissance. The blending of cultures left a lasting mark on architecture,music, literature, religion and clothing Economy India was very prosperous during this period. However the state didn't put in any policies to shape the economy.Farming remained the main occupation. Though in urban areas industry did start to pop up such as the textile industry especially the manufacturing of cotton, woolen and silk cloth, dyes, metal, stone and brick work and the sugar industries. Trade was flourishing, Sea routes connected India to Europe, china and other various countries in the pacific. While Land routes connected India to Central Asia, Afghanistan, Persia, Tibet and Bhutan.Currency also began to be used and coins were being minted and issued during the Sultanate period.
