Types of Conflict
EXTERNAL:
-Man vs. Man
-Man vs. Nature
-Man vs. Supernatural
-Man vs. Technology
- Man vs. Society
- Man vs Destiny
INTERNAL:
- Man vs. Self
Why is conflict
important?
Without conflict there is no plot.
The plot is created around the conflict
Man vs. Man
A character struggles with another character
Protagonist vs. Antagonist
Classic "good guy" vs. "bad guy" situation
Man vs. Nature
A character is against a force of nature
Usually struggling to survive
Man vs. Self
A character struggles in his/her mind
It usually has something to do with a choice
Man vs. Supernatural
The character faces stuff not of this world
gods, ghosts, monsters, spirits, aliens, etc.
Man vs. Fate
Character fights for choice
character fights for destiny
Man vs. Technology
character faces computers or machines
To wrap this up, without conflict in a story that story would not be worth reading. Conflict adds most of the interesting parts to the story. Conflict is not just people charging out guns ablaze. It is also the simple things like a nightmare that comes night after night or a broken leg.
