-L.S. Vygotsky Vygotsky states: "Every function in the childs' cultural development appears twice: on the social level, and later, on the individual level; first, between people (interpsychological) and then inside the child (intrapsychological)." (Vygotsky, 1978). A child needs to be emerged into a culturally rich environment to learn. A concept of Vygotsky is zone of proximal development. This is the idea that a child can accomplish a mental activity within his or her range with assistance (Berk, 2008). Learning from others provides a greater concept of knowledge; it maximizes the amount that is learned. Applied Developmental Theory Activity Part of a child's development involves the ability
to interact socially with other kids and people.
While some kids adapt to social interactions easily,
others may have more of a challenge. Parents and
teachers can engage kids in various games that will
help them develop their social skills and provide fun
as well (Radenhausen, 2010). Activity:
"Build a Consensus"
For this game kids learn the importance of negotiation and compromise by planning a mock birthday party. Individually kids mull over choices regarding activities, the lunch meal and type of birthday cake. Once kids identify their favorite and least favorite options, they come together and see what they agree on. The activity supports social development by involving the students in taking turns. This activity requires the children to pay attention while interacting with others; it can help them make decisions on important occasions or even for fun. Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.

development being put to use. Building a positive relationship with the child is important. The child needs opportunities to gain trust with the teacher. When discipline problems occur it is important to handle the problem immediately, that way it will not cause any more problems down the road. The key to success in a classroom is to maximize the teaching time. Every minute counts in a classroom.
