Many libraries use Dewey Decimal Classification. At the Overseas School of Colombo we also use the DDC to organize our collection.

The DDC as it is widely known was developed by Melvil Dewy in 1876, when he was only 21 years old. The DDC allows us to classify subjects using a numerical order.
The Dewey Decimal Classification can be found on the spine of a library book.

You will also notice the DDC number when you use the OPAC.
Dewey was born on December 10, 1851, he started the first school for librarians.
