Art is my hobby
I plan to attend college
I'm also interested in physical fitness
Third year at Hillgrove Highschool
Why I chose my topic...
I enjoy exploring different art mediums.
I wanted to try something new.
It helps me realize how this kind of career is.
It's a stretch for me, I wanted to develop my opinion about the auto painting industry Senior Project 2010 Automobile Art Research I explored the auto painting buisness from the inside out.
Wrote on techniques, skills, procedures, cost, types of paints and tools. My Mentor Bill Abrams 40 years expirence in car art
Appeared on television Product Around 15 hours total spent
Had to decide on an idea.
Inspired by "Panel Jam"
Decided to cut out a piece of a car.
I soon began rough draft sketches
Making a decision First Meeting Cutting out our door Old Acura
Sawed out Sanding our door 300 grit sandpaper "Leather texture"
scraped off any old clear coat paint residue off door Preparing our logo and sketches Had to use copier to prepare Hillgrove logo (small errors logo too big). Starting the painting process using the marbleize method.
Taped borders,1/16th masking tape. Prepared spray gun, used, Satajet digital spraygun.
Candy Red Concentrate paint. Used a piece of plastic coated in
Candy red concentrate to give marble effect. With our copy we colored the back in
black chalk. Placed it on our panel covered in Application film. Traced the logo front in pencil, showed up on film. Spray Painting our bird Used Exacto knife to cut out the negatives on our bird, spray painted over. (Apple Red) First Meeting work Success! Second Meeting, Pinstriping Got to the coolest part, PINSTRIPING! Decided on colors
Used Orange, Purple, Red, Crimson. Very difficult
Requires steady hand and precision
Got to practice! Third Meeting, Clear Coats Learned about clear coating
Most cars are clearcoated in the final result
Keeps clean and polished. 20 coats of clear coat applicant applied DO NOT BREATHE IN CLEAR COAT FUMES!
I found out the hard way. 1 week to dry! Dried Result Fourth Meeting, Touch Ups Chrome Border, and rubberized backside. With that I had finished my product!
