Transcript of Dance is a sport

Is dance a sport? Many people differ on the fact if
dance is a sport or not. What is the definition of sport? A sport is an athletic activity involving mental and physical ability, skill, usually in a competitive nature. Basketball, baseball, football, soccer, wrestling, track, golf, swimming Like football players, dancers
have to warm up and stretch. For example running,
jumping jacks and high
knees are some ways of
warming up before stretching the
legs, arms and body. Like all sports, warming up and stretching is essential to prevent injuries. Dancers have to condition their
bodies. Dancers condition the body to
build strength and stamina.
Lunges, squats, push-ups,
running sprints and distance are
a few examples of the many different
workouts dancers do to build the
muscles needed for jumps, leaps and
turns. A significant reason for dancers
to condition is to avoid sprains, bone
fractures, pulled muscles and more. Not only does dance require strength and
agility, the mind has to be prepared as well. Without being mentally involved,
dancers will lose count, get off beat,
forget what their sequences are, not be in
sync. At times we learn a dance up to
10 minutes long and perform it without any breaks. Like all sports, dancers have try outs. Dancers have tryouts to make a company, certain team, shows. While dancing dancers think about facials, presence, emotion, technique, choreography, performance and more In conclusion, dance is a discipline that requires obedient training of the mind and body. People also say dance is an art or hobby and not a sport. Even the NPS website puts dance under programs and not athletics. *experience *NPS board of education
