Transcript of Day one

Welcome to Ms. Heflin's 5th Grade Class
1. Come in and sit down in a seat.
2. QUIETLY wait for Ms. Heflin to start the class.
I was born in Kansas City, KS. My parents are divorced and I grew up living with my mom. I have lived in a lot of different places and traveled all over the world. I have one sister. I am single and I don't have children, but I do have two cats named George and Nicholas. My favorite color is pink and I love chocolate.
So who is
Ms. Heflin?
Procedure for when I need the class's attention
Students, I have a procedure when I want your undivided attention. You will see me stand with my hand raised and I will either say "Ladies & Gentlemen" or "Give me five" and then count to five. When you see my hand or hear my voice, the procedure is as follows:

1. Freeze

2. Turn and face me.

3. Empty your hands and be ready for instruction. (I will have something to say.)

4. Do not move until I am done & have told you it is okay to go back to what you were doing.
How to
Enter the Classroom

If you need a pencil, leave a pencil.
Start your warm-up work.
You will have 5-8 minutes to complete your warm up work.
Class Dismissal
Students, there is a procedure at the end of the period. You are to in your seats until
I dismiss the class
. The bells do not dismiss the class. You do not dismiss the class. The teacher dismisses the class.

Put all of your belongings in your backpack.
Your desk is to be clean & clear of all trash.

Watch me demonstrate how to make the table tent before you begin.
You now have a blank piece of paper.
Now fold the paper as I have demonstrated so that you have 3 sections.
In the middle section, write your first & last name so that it can be read from the front of the room.
RESPECT
I promise to treat every student in my class with respect & dignity. Understand that each student will be treated according to his or her needs. This means that, while the class will be treated as one, there will be times when I treat individual students differently. It does not mean I respect anyone less or that they are being given special privileges.
