By: Ian Hemostasis Hemostasis Phases This phase is definitely the longest but
it is very cool. Do you want to have a wound showing on your hand forever? I don't think so. The cut will be repaired already but it can still be showing. If you have a scar, they last a long time don't they? It won't last forever with this stage. But they can last more than 2 years in some cases. The collagen is very similar to super glue at first and needs to be molded in certain alignments in order to perform the functional capabilities of the tissue that it is replacing. This is a great improvement in the quality, look, orientation, and tensile strength of the collagen from the scab that you have gotten from earlier phases. It may take 3 weeks or more than 2 years to remodel. To me, this is the most important part of healing wounds. Instead of calling it the Proliferation phase, you could conveniently call it the repairing phase. This phase is when inflammation has decreased and your body actually begins to repair the injury, not just plug it up or swell it. Your body will commence putting down collagen to replace the damaged tissue. Oxygen and Vitamin C are essential to aide in the collagen accumulation. This process can take from seventy-two hours to six weeks depending on the size of the wound. That is why I think this phase is the most important in the wound healing process. No proliferation, no healing. Remodeling Phase How do wounds heal? H You probably have no idea what hemostasis is, but this is very important in the process of healing. This process of healing will cease the blood from coming out of your body and bleeding to the point that you could demise.
Did you know that every time you bleed, you have a bleeding disorder, but hemostasis fixes that. Once hemostasis is put in work, cells come together and form a clot to stop the bleeding. Those cells dry and when they do, it is a scab. That's how scabs form. These Phases are: Vascular phase: Damaging blood vessels leads to a spasm of the muscle in the vessel wall. This vasoconstriction can cause the bleeding to slow or even stop!

Platelet Phase: Endothelial cells line the blood vessel and, when damaged, will release the von Willebrande's Factor. This material makes the surfaces of the endothelial cells adhesive. Just this part can close small blood vessels. Platelets begin to stick to the endothelial cells and this is called Platelet Adhesion.

Coagulation Phase: Fibrin is created when tissue or blood vessels are damaged. Fibrin forms a network of fibers which traps platelets and blood cells and forms a thrombus or clot. Inflammation Inflammation is the body's natural response to all injuries. It's not a good thing to say but this phase comes with swelling, warmth, and often pain! The good thing is that while it is hurting, leukocytes and macrophages are destroying bacteria and cleaning the wound so it is less likely to get an infection. If you don't think and play in the dirt and in mud while you have a cut in your arm, that cut can still become infected if platelets and blood cells haven't formed a complete barricade to stop the blood from leaking out. So the way you know inflammation is happening is.... Look at you cut, is it swelling? If it is than you are having inflammation and this is body's way of protecting itself so don't be scared if you have a huge bump on your leg.(Unless you have been bitten by a poisonous animal. Then it's time to be scared but inflammation is the reason you have those huge bumps. The swelling causes stabilization in the spot you have been injured at. You will get warmer because the blood is pooling in the area that you've been injured or caused the swelling. Although inflammation causes you swelling, warmth, and sometimes pain, do not be scared of it. It's only helping you. Proliferation Phase Conclusion All these phases are amazing, which may take a while but think of what your body has done for you in this process. I have just taught you to be helpful to your body. Vegetables may not taste good but you don't want to suffer diseases that don't let your cells heal your own body. At first, I used to think that when I got a cut, the skin grew back and I was fine but I was way off! I just explained how complex our body's are. So feed your cells if you don't want to lose a game that you created yourself!
