Atoms are real
means that an atom called H and an atom called O combined at a 1:2 ratio will become water
There is a reason it is always 1:2
and why it isnt 13:4 or something like that

Atoms are the reason why H2O is water and why atoms exist.

He built a cathode ray tube by putting two cylinders together and sending a voltage through them.
What was observed?
He wanted to see if he could separate the electrical charge from the rays
What was concluded?
He concluded that there was no way to separate the rays and they needed to be stuck together to function properly

He studied the particles emitted by uranium metal and its compounds
What was observed?
narrow beam of -particles was broadened when it passed through a thin film of mica or metal

the positive charge and the mass of an atom are concentrated in a small fraction of the total volume

That the atom is a nucleus with an electron orbiting around it.
How did this change the way people viewed the atom?
by realizing that the electrons did not crash into the nucleus as we would be expected
