Transcript of Differences Between Inner and Outer Planets

Planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars More Information Planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune More information Inner and Outer Planets By Haruna Heima Orbits close to our sun Orbits further from the Sun Characteristics Characteristics Solid surfaces No solid surfaces Varied atmospheres Mars has a similar composition of carbon dioxide and nitrogen as Venus although it has a much thinner atmosphere. Mercury doesn't have any atmosphere although Helium and Sodium is detected above its surface. Venus' atmosphere is mostly Carbon Dioxide with a very small amount of Nitrogen. Earth has an atmosphere that contains mostly of Nitrogen with a small percentage of O2 and a even smaller percentage of other gases. Similar atmospheres containing mostly of helium and hydrogen Smaller in size Larger in size Rotation and Revolution Rotate slowly Rotation and Revolution Rotate quickly Revolves slowly Revolve quickly the inner planets take less time to revolve because they have shorter distances to travel. the outer planets take longer time to revolve because they have a much larger distance to travel Uranus and Neptune both have methane in their atmospheres Visits from Earth We have visited ALL the inner planets more than once with Mercury being an exception Visits from Earth We have visited ALL the outer Planets at least once We have only visited Uranus and Neptune only once while we have visited Jupiter and Neptune more than once Voyager is the space craft that visited all 4 planets Mercury has had only one space craft visit Venus has had 26 space crafts visit We (Earth) has many satellites orbiting around in space Mars has had 7 space crafts visit Jupiter has had 8 space crafts visit Saturn has had 4 space crafts visit None of the inner planets have any rings Mercury has the biggest range in temperature Ranging from -300 degrees to 800 degrees Fahrenheit Venus is the only planet in our system that rotates clockwise Jupiter's clouds change color over time Uranus and its moons rotates on its side The distance of the outer planets is much, much greater than the distances between the inner planets Made mostly of rock
(terrestrial planets- Earth like) Made mostly of gas
(Gas giants) Inner Planets Outer Planets THE PLANETS DISTANCE FROM EARTH SIZE COMPOSITION OUTER PLANETS SURFACE ATMOSPHERE ROTATION REVOLUTION INNER PLANETS OUTER PLANETS INNER PLANETS INNER PLANETS OUTER PLANETS # OF VISITS INNER PLANETS OUTER PLANETS
