The Fault in Our Stars
Peter Van Houten, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
Hazel Grace Lancaster: Hazel is a slightly depressed sixteen year-old thyroid cancer patient with an in-between personality.

Augustus Waters: Augustus is an upbeat seventeen year old boy diagnosed with osteosarcoma at a young age. Due to his disease, his right leg is amputated.

Issac: Issac is Augustus' best friend. He has eye cancer and goes blind, so he finds support in Hazel and Augustus.

Mrs. Lancaster: Hazel's mom is her best friend and is described to be very enthusiastic.

Peter Van Houten: Van Houten is the author of Hazel's favorite book: 'An Imperial Affliction'.
Man vs Nature: Hazel is battling cancer within her lungs.

Man vs Self: 'An Imperial Affliction' ends in mid-sentence so Hazel has many unanswered questions for the author about the book and it's true ending.

Man vs Self: Hazel tries to not to build a relationship with Augustus so that there will be one less 'scar' left after she dies.
Important Events
Hazel and Augustus meet at Support Group where they swap their cancer stories.

Augustus and Hazel's relationship grows.

Hazel recommends Augustus to read 'An Imperial Affliction', a book about girl living with cancer.

Augustus becomes interested in the book and contacts Peter Van Houten (author) via email. He promises to answer any questions about the book if the two come to Amsterdam.

Augustus uses a "Wish" he received because of his previous poor health conditions to take Hazel to Amsterdam to visit Van Houten.

Van Houten presents himself as a rude alcoholic. Hazel is disappointed with his behavior and Augustus and Hazel go to the Anne Frank house.

Augustus reveals that in his recent PET scan he "lit up like a Christmas tree".
It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Love triumphs over struggle and hardships.

Pain demands to be felt.

Fate will not always run its rugged course for there is nothing in the world can stop us from overcoming it.
If Hazel gets pneumonia, she would drown since her lungs and body are weak, but Augustus WATERS is the one who saves her.
Gus' unlit cigarette: It symbolizes that Augustus has control over his fate to a certain degree.

Third John Green Book
Couldn't put it down!
"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have a say in who hurts you."
Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbound set. I want more numbers I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for anything. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful."
Hazel Grace, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations."
Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you."
Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"The marks humans leave are too often scars."
Hazel Grace, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt."
Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
"I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up, my friend."
