04.05 The Great Depression: Assignment
Transcript of 04.05 The Great Depression: Assignment
Hello there, I am Jimmy, I am wearing a long sleeve shirt and a cowboy hat. The great depression has changed my life, I am the man, the provider but this depression has put a toll on me. I can't seem to get my family to be where we need to be but I am trying. I lost my land and my livestock so I brought my wife, the lovely lady standing next to me with a plaid dress and my daughter that is holding her baby, to California so i can be the man she needs me to be. Things are now okay around here but we are not having such a welcome, people are afraid that we are going to take their money and their work, they just need to understand I am going to do whatever it takes to make a better life for my family. We came here with only the clothes on our back, our land was destroyed and the dust bowl storms are horrible, I tend to settle where my family is safe.
Hello, I am the woman holding the baby. The baby is my son, I was left widowed due to the depression. I moved to California with my mother and father so my son won't have a bad life. We were left with nothing, my fathers animals and home as well as my own were destroyed, I felt I had no other choice but to leave my home for my son. There was job opportunities but the pay isn't quite good, my father said something is better than nothing. I hope that one day soon I can get my son and I a home so I won't be such stress to my father. I have met a lot of new people and hoping that one of them could be a connection to a better job. Until than I am helping my father with work and my mother stays at home to watch my son. I am so thankful for my parents.
Hello , I am the one with short hair wearing a long plaid dress with an overcoat. My husband is the man behind me and we have our beautiful little 4 year old girl and 8 year old boy with us. We had a good life until the depression hit us. I was a stay at home mother but my husband was a hard working farmer. After the depression the crops didn't fall through we couldn't make ends meat. The bank took over our land because we no longer could afford it so we migrated to California in search for a better life. We didn't have much to leave with it so we took the little bit of clothes we had that all fit in one suitcase and food for our children to eat. The drought is affecting many of our good friends but my family comes first, I am just happy that we got here to California safe and we can move forward.
