Lighting consultants can choose between Team LED and Team Metal Halide for a stadium’s interior or exterior lighting needs.
With governments enforcing environmental legislation across
the globe, a vast majority of newly installed lights will be LED.
Stadium LED lights typically don’t go above:
The top membrane of a stadium roof is typically made of PVC while the lower membrane is made of a higher-quality PTFE, but many new first-class international stadiums are now considering PTFE for both membranes.
A major challenge faced by architects and membrane providers is to install a roof that is lightly coloured and translucent enough to prevent stadium overheating; however most manufactured membranes are black or dark brown.
To design textile membranes with a sophisticated graphic exterior, BIM utility is required.
As part of any legacy programme, the upper bowl (terrace) of a stadium is oftentimes removed following tournament or Olympic conclusion.
These upper bowls, therefore, must be made of light-weight steel or SPS in order to encourage
easier and more cost-effective removal.
More and more stadium owners and operators are preferring natural grass that can go days
without sunlight so that stadium retractable roofs can remain closed to save on energy costs.
As such, grass that can sustain quality without seeing light for days is typically the material of choice for clients.
To encourage authentic play
even in stadiums with retractable roofs – is becoming the surface of choice for tournament
and league officials.
Stadium operators can choose between Team Energy Storage System or Team Diesel for their stadium generator needs.
Energy Storage Systems don’t import diesel, use clean energy, and have higher reliability than their diesel counterparts.
However, Energy Storage Systems are far more expensive to install than are diesel generators.
Since Energy Storage Systems use the same batteries as e-cars (which are expected to increase in demand in the next
due to increased popularity), expect Energy Storage Systems’ prices to come down, and thus, their use to go up.
To support these 2-way systems, efficient communication (without lag or delay) is required so that those in the command center see exactly those on the ground in real time.
There are five characteristics that describe a ‘modern stadium’:
1) A powerful Wi-Fi system
2) Large format LED digital signage and screens
3) In-seat mobile device chargers
4) Venue specific mobile device application
5) A comprehensive stadium-wide beacon network
To ensure fan engagement, stadiums are competing against one another to provide the best of these five systems to their fans.
STADIUM SYSTEM INTEGRATION
The biggest challenges stadium clients and operators face is finding a company that integrates 1) IT, 2) AV, and 3) BMS.
Oftentimes, companies integrate IT and AV well, but not BMS.
As a response, the client often selects one integrator for IT and AV and another for BMS.
