Engineering Design Standards

'Storylines' with guiding questions were added to the beginning of each grade band and section to describe the content and rationale for the performance expectations.

The 'All Standards, All Students' appendix was expanded to include several vignettes about implementation of NGSS with diverse student groups.

Performance expectations names were changes from lowercase letters to numbers to avoid confusion with DCI names (MS-LS1-a became MS-LS1-1) Response to Feedback Become familiar with A Framework for K-12 Science Education (jigsaw)

Using current science curriculum, decide where practices can be implemented.

Begin having students engage in arguments from evidence (claim/evidence)

Put CCC in kid friendly language

Standards are NOT a description of curriculum

Standards do not dictate instruction NGSS Describes Achievement, Not Instruction Successful implementation of NGSS will require students to understand and apply DCIs, Science and Engineering Practices and CCC through the development of ideas across time.

NGSS will require viewing instruction and assessment as the 'bundling' of performance expectations into coherent lessons and assessment.
