Interactive Notebook Introduction
Transcript of Interactive Notebook Introduction
much more engaging than
regular note taking!
an isn is...
all pages have a title, date, and page number
a table of contents to help find topics
everything is taped or glued in so it can't get lost
does this mess look familiar?
an isn is...
notes are highlighted, colored, and drawn so that important information stands out
an isn is...
easy to understand
notes are taken using
clear and simple steps
Easy to look back in your
notes to help you solve problems
if you put in the effort,
your ISN will become your own PERSONAL TEXTBOOK and a how-to guide!
ISNs can be great resources in future years
I can't find my homework...
I don't know where those notes are...
I don't remember this,
we didn't learn this last year...
I don't have that anymore,
I think I threw it away...
Uh, I think it's in my locker...
It reviews topics that may be
reoccurring and important.
table of contents
easy to read & navigate to lessons
matches the heading on each page
each follows the same format:
page set up...
student created problems
Start with class syllabus and grading rubric...
what's my learning style...
next pages are review...
HOW IN THE WORLD DO I MAKE MY OWN!!?!?!?
where do you keep supplies?
gets a little
and more organized...
dry erase boards
and even more organized...
Look at supply list
Label TOC and page headings
Get out needed supplies
Wait for bell to ring & class to start
get in a routine...
introduce lesson (video, examples)
teach lesson-without taking notes
take notes (RIGHT side-teacher produced)
practice (LEFT side-student produced)
exit tickets or KWL
a typical day with ISNs...
What to do on page 1...
but where do you get this stuff...
Teachers Pay Teachers
don't reinvent the wheel
search!! tons out there!!
find a person who pins a lot of INB stuff and follow their boards
tougher to find but GREAT
see what works/doesn't work for others (don't make the same mistake twice!)
use your resources and re-create
leading up to...
practice new skills
do you understand what's going on?
the notes: help you study and remember how to do things
time to get away from long division and those
makes for quick calculations and without thinking too much
'cause ain't nobody got time for that!
teach without notes...
What do you notice about bigger numbers that 2 goes into?
add notes to right side TEACHER page...
On PAGE 2...
cut both pages in half
glue bottom page in middle of notebook
cut dotted lines on the top page
tape the top page on the left side only (so flaps can open to the bottom page)
color top and bottom pages so flaps match the rules
practice on left side STUDENT page...
circle all factors that go into the given numbers.
do you grade them...
grade every quarter
grade the individual assignments daily
eliminates refusal to do the notebook
do you add in the notebook every day...
what will you change for next year...
where do homework and exams go...
when do they use the notebooks...
hopefully all the time!
what about new students...
questions from you!!!
