Heroin
What are five slang names for the drug?
Skunk, horse, brown sugar, and dope are just a few slang names for Heroin.
Can you purchase the drug legally or as a prescription?
The drug can be prescribed for extreme reasons, but the process is long.


In most countries, if caught with the drug, you are subjected to a death penalty.
How does the drug affect the body? (3 short term, 3 long term)
A long term cause is that the drug destroys the body. It also takes over your life and has been known to cause arthritis.

A short term cause is slowed breathing that may induce a coma; clouds your mental function, and you may cause nausea and severe vomiting.
What is the history of the drug? Where was it first found or used?
Heroin first came from poppy plants or synthetic substitutes for morphine. It was synthesized from morphine in 1874 by an English chemist, but was not produced commercially until 1898 by the Bayer Pharmaceutical Company. This new find was supposed to replace morphine, but became illegal.

Heroin can be a liquid or a powder.
How long does the drug stay in the body? How long after can you feel the symptoms and test positive?
Heroin can be tested in urine 5 days later; blood 6 hours later; and saliva 1-4 days later.

How does the drug enter the body?
Heroin enters the body by injection, smoking, or snorting. From there, it goes to the brain. Most people inject the drug, though.
Is there a medical use for the drug? If so, explain.
Not in the U.S. But in the U.K, in extreme cases, doctors may prescribe Heroin to cancer patients as a pain killer.
What are five interesting facts about the drug?
1/4 of people who try heroin get addicted.
Chronic Heroin users will feel withdrawal effects within a few hours.
Heroin comes from morphine and many prescription painkillers.
About 9.2 million people in the world use Heroin.
Heroin can cause low weight in babies at birth.
When someone chooses to use drugs, what are the effects on members of society?
Heroin is an expensive habit and will hurt their family monetarily. Heroin will lead to poor baby birth health. a parent who uses heroin will make their family feel neglected, depressed or anxious. A person that knows a loved one is taking heroin, will often feel stressed.
Conclusion
Heroin is a highly addictive drug that is injected, snorted or smoked. It causes slowed breathing and could cause comas and death. It stays in the body for up to 5 days by urine tests. Slang terms include horse, dope, and brown sugar. Heroin is not only fatal to you, but to your family also.
