The End! Triumvirate A Triumvirate is a political alliance and literally means "rule of three men." His family is rumored to be descendants of the Trojan Prince, Aeneas. Background 59 BCE-50 BCE Consul Caesar won consulship with the help of Pompey and Crassus. It was a joint consulship with Bibulus, but people joked it was the consulship of Julius and Caesar. He won the vote of every century, the first in Rome's history to do so. He reformed much of Rome. He relieved debts, grew the senate, and improved the calendar. The first Roman Emperor after Caesar was his adopted nephew, Octaivan (Augustus). Right Emperors The End Relationships Had a relationship with Cleopatra and a son with her named Caesarion. Calpurnia was aware of Caesar and his relationship with Cleopatra and their son. Mark Antony later fell in love with Cleopatra, too, after the rise of Augustus. In 84 BCE, Julius Caesar married Cornelia at only age 18. Cornelia was the daughter of Cinna, a top politician. She bore Julius a daughter whom they named Julia. In 68 BCE she died during childbirth. After the death of his first wife he married Pompeia, a distant relative of Pompey. A man sneaked into her room privately and tried to seduce her. He was put on trial and executed. He divorced Pompeia just after a few years and got engaged to Calpurnia, his final wife. Calpurnia was only 16 at the time. After his death, she never remarried. Gaius Julius Caesar was born in 100 BCE in Rome, Italy. His parents were Gaius Julius Caesar & Aurelia Cotta. He had two sisters, who were both named Julia. By forming an alliance with Mark Antony, he won all of Rome. He was hailed as a hero for bringing peace to Rome. Tiberius 14 AD- 37 AD Tiberius was born in 42 BC. He was the adopted son of Augustus, whom married Tiberius' mom, Livia Drusilla. He was forced into the line for throne by marrying Caesar's daughter, Julia. Tiberius was not popular among the Roman people, but won the vote for emperor by the senate. The first Triumvirate was formed in 60 BC by Gauis Julius Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Pompey). The first Triumvirate ended in 53 BC when Crassus passed.
