Transcript of Singing God's Way

Singing God's Way
Many times our own brethren do not fully understand the WHY we do not use them.

We shouldn't not use them just because its
"first century worship".
Man's View vs. Biblical Teaching
You are the jury

A Cappella Singing
vs.
Mechanical Instrumental music in worship.
The difference between man's view and what the bible says on this matter

Colossians 3:15-17
Biblical Teaching
Christ is in control, "He is the head of the body, the church..."

Colossians 3:1-2

Biblical Teaching
Biblical Teaching
What about David?
The problem is not what David did, but the fact that he is not the head of the church.

Yes, he was a man after God's own heart, but he lived in a different covenant.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 - The new covenant
Biblical Teahing
Do you accept Christ as the head of the church?
Biblical Teaching
If we accept Him as our head, then we must accept everything that He has said regarding
His church and worship.
Biblical Teaching
If we do not read a "Thou shalt not," then is it right to do that particular thing?

That's why people say, "Well it doesn't tell us we can't do that."

There isn't a place that says "Thou shalt not use a piano or any type of musical instrument in worship to God."
The Silence of Scripture
When we start trying to build an acceptable worship based on the silence of the Scriptures, we run into all kinds of difficulty.

Hebrews 7:14
The Silence of Scripture
The Lord is going to direct us in worship to God, true worship.

He plainly explains what He wants, then it is our authority.

The Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20
"Go and preach the gospel" is the main instruction.
The Silence of Scripture
Colossians 3:16 gives us our plain direction:
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
Silence of Scripture
However, it wouldn't be fair if we didn't point out that there is an instrument to be used in worship.

It is our
hearts
. Colossians 3:16 says, "singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

Many times in our worship, we don't put enough emphasis on this
Silence of Scripture
How wonderful would our singing be if we actually sang from out hearts, not to each other, but to the Lord!

After all, the worship is not about us but about pleasing God.
Christ is in control of the created universe and those who are called out.
In conclusion...
He is the mediator of the New Testament
In conclusion...
If we add instruments and worship as David did in the
Old Testament, then why do we not make sacrifices
and have multiple wives as they did in
the Old Testament?
In conclusion...
I rest my case, dear jurors. The verdict is up to you. Will you be singing God's way?

Chapter 12: Acts 16:25
Singing God's Way
Man's View vs. Biblical Teaching
"Why don't you use mechanical instruments in worship?"
Hebrews 9:15 - He is the maker, author and mediator of the New Testament.

What gave Him that right?
His death, burial and resurrection.
If we are going to be in the church that belongs to Christ, we must accept Him as our head.
If we accept Him as our head, we can't pull something that David (who is not our head) did in the OLD Testament.
In conclusion...
As New Testament Christians, we speak where the bible speaks, and are silent where the bible is silent.
Because of Christ, the Old Law was put to death and the New Law was put into place
Colossians 3:16
Man's View vs. Biblical Teaching
The question most New Testament Christians face daily...
