What Can YOU Do To help?
- Help them stay connected socially.

- Help them understand they aren't alone

- Enroll them into a help group/support group

- Help them learn more about their mental health

- Help them cope with mental health and empathize with them

Helping those with mental health problems could be the difference between life and death. According to the World Health Organization people who are 15 - 44 years old, suicide is the leading cause of death.
Anxiety Disorder
Feeling fear and dread at unusual times
generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.
Mood Disorder
Feeling of
long durations of sadness
periods of being overly happy
fluctuation of extreme happiness and extreme sadness
such as depression, bipolar disorder, and cyclothymic disorder.
Common Types of Mental Illnesses
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Lasting thoughts and memories of something traumatic or terrifying happen to them
Such as the experience of war, sexual or physical abuse, death of a loved one, or natural disasters
Begin between the first 3-12months after event. could last 6 months or longer.
Flashbacks, disturbing dreams, trouble sleeping, distress if reminded of event, random outburst of anger.
Personality Disorder
Extreme and inflexible personality traits
Can distress them interfering with work,school, social relationship, and the way a person would normally function
Such as antisocial personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and paranoid personality disorder.

- Canada has the 9th highest rate of bullying in the world students have the ability to be bullied during school time.
Life experiences can affect mental health because if a student has had past experiences with parents being abusive this can lead to depression well as PTSD.

- This can cause the student to not want to come to school anymore.
If a family has a history of having mental health problems then this can be passed on through genes and could give the children mental health problems as well.

- Difficulty of handling multiple tasks.

- According to howstuffworks.com, ADHD is developed in the brain where when born the "frontal lobes" are smaller than normal.

-Gives students a lower ability to concentrate and to plan

- Mental health illnesses effect students ability to create friends, socialize and overall partner work during school.

- Someone who is socially awkward most likely wont find many partners when doing partner work at school.

Finding friends and having friends to rely on in partner work is very crucial for learning in school but for someone who has a social disorder it is tough.

How Depression Affects and Effects of Student Learning in Schools.
Students and young teenagers go through many things that increases their depressive state such as:
Going/attending school is a huge stress factor that students go through and may affect their learning ability and ability to relate to other people
Problems of creating a good Social relationship may lead to low self esteem or depression itself
Researchers always can find a relationship between smoking and depression
Another strong relationship with depression in students is sleep deprivation
having a hard time sleeping
unhappy to get up and refuse to go to school

Mental illnesses can take many forms, just like physical illnesses. Mental illnesses are feared and misunderstood by many people but once the word is spread about them they become more know and more respected by others.
What is Good Mental Health?
Good mental health includes well being, confidence, self esteem and excepting you for who you are.
What is Bad Mental Health?
Bad mental health effects how a person thinks, interacts and behaves around others and their loved ones.
Mental health effects our social, emotional and psychological well being. This determines how we make choices and how we deal with stress.
