was built over ten years by Emperor Vespasian and completed by Emperor Titus.
is an eliptical. It's not exactly round but curved.
had 80 arches on every floor.
could hold over 50,000 people.
was built with marble, limestone, and LOTS of cement.
held the gladitorial games. They would be like our
football games today.
had over 300 tons of metal rods that held the limestone blocks together.
held other events.
after 523 AD went through centuries of neglect and several earthquakes damaged it beyond repair.
In 2005, over 3 million people visited the arena.
must of been simply awesome in it's glory days!
was completed in 80AD.
had a pulley system underneath that lifted the athletes and animals to the surface of the arena.
is not completely round.
