Humanism and Raphael

On April 6th, 1483, Raphael was born in Urbino, Italy.

His father was a successful painter who not only passed on techniques to his son, but also Humanist ideas
Growing Up
Raphael's childhood was cut fairly short when his father died in 1484.

Even at the young age of 11, Raphael took over his father's workshop.
Discovery and Achievements
Raphael died on the same day he was born at the young age
of 38 years old on April 6,
1520 in Rome, Italy
In 1500 a master painter named Pietro Vannunci invited Raphael
to become his apprentice in Perugia, Italy.
The apprenticeship lasted for four years and provided Raphael
with the opportunity to gain both knowledge and hands-on experience

As a young succesful painter, he was already hired to paint alters and other pieces that would later be displayed in the Vatican

His mother died in 1491

School of Athens represented self-glorification and general movement away from the church

Humanist Embodiment
This appeals to Greek and Roman Culture by including the philosophers in School of Athens

Through presenting these people, the School of Athens also highlights the idea that
people have the ability to achieve and improve.
