Transcript of Charlie Chaplin
Charlie was married 4 times first to sixteen year old Mildred Harris in 1918. After two years they divorced. In 1924 me married again to Lita Grey also sixteen. The marriage only lasted until 1927. The marriage brought two boys Sydney and Charles Jr. In 1936 he married again to Paulette Goddard but divorced in 1942. in 1943 Charlie married for his final time to eighteen year old Oona O'Neil. Charlie was married for the rest of his life and had eight children with Oona.
Charlie was not loved everywhere. Charlie was kicked out of the U.S. and was told to get back in to show moral worth. Charlie moved to Vevey Switzerland. He returned to the U.S. in which he was awarded from the Motion Picture Academy. he died soon after on the morning of december 25, 1977 at the age of 88. His body was stolen but soon recovered. The men who stole it where demanding $400,000 for its return.
Charlie was born April 16, 1889 in London England.
Charlie was abandoned my his alcoholic father and was left with his older brother and mother. His mother a singer provided for the family until losing her singing voice on stage. The manager desperate to get an audience sent Charlie out. Charlie lit up the crowd in what would be his first stage appearance. Charlie mom did lose her job and was later sentenced to a mental asylum.
Charlie Chaplin did minor acting and singing stunts until his first role in Sherlock Holmes. he went on to play in other films as more progressively important characters and eventually got a contract by Mack Sennet for 150$
In 1914 Charlie worked for Mack sennet but needed to stand out. Charlie played a character in " Auto races at Venice" named the Little tramp. Soon after jobs started rolling in. Within that next year he acted in 35 films and was being payed big money. Charlie left Sennet to work for Essanay company which would pay a large paycheck of $1250 a week. when charlie was 26 his acting career couldn't be more perfect. He transferred to Mutual Company which paid him $670,000 a year. along with money and fame came a director. Charlie would often be a perfectionist having to direct how the movie was done. Often charlie would make countless retakes to get it just right.
