Lesson Objectives

All Will Be Able To:
Sing in Call and Response, focusing on Phrasing, Breathing, Articulation and Pitch.

We Will Strive To:
To sing on our own or as part of a group and explore the element of improvisation in our singing.

In groups of four, rehearse ‘Stand by me’.
Decide who will sing each part (melody/doo-doo's) and then perform together.
Lesson Objectives

All Will Be Able To:
Sing a round in 2 and 4 parts .

We Will Strive To:
Identify the melodic PHRASES and how focus on PITCHING the notes correctly.
Lesson Objectives

All Will Be Able To:
Understand the importance of PULSE,
RHYTHM AND METRE.

We Will Strive To; Recognize the pattern of strong and weak beats and FEEL the rhythm of the song.
Let's look at the success criteria for
good singing!!!
Metre is the grouping of the pulse into
STRONGER and WEAKER beats
Let us try to sing 'Humpty Dumpty' without stressing any words.
Why does is it sound wrong?

It is important to recognize the STRONG beats
and emphasize them to give a sense of PULSE to your singing.
Correct breathing is the
most important aspect for
good singing.
Listen to this song
and move with the pulse.
Swaying, stopping, finger clicking,
leg tapping etc.

In other words - 'feel' the pulse!!!!
Let's warm up our voices
ready to sing!!

Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry.........

We will now sing London's Burning in a round in UNISON and at the same PITCH.

There are 4 PHRASES that we could label ABCD. We will now sing it in 2 parts.
Think about your pitch and the 2-part harmony effect.
In groups of four, rehearse the round
with each person taking turns to sing their line. Try experimenting with different DYNAMICS, TEMPOS, RHYTHMS etc and be creative!

The round begins CC FF CC FF
(use the keyboards to help pitch the notes if necessary)
Perform your round to the rest of the group
Pupils are to go into groups of four
and practice their 'call and response'.
Confident singers may call and the others will respond. You have 15 mins before you have to perform to the class!
How did each group perform?
Are they using various performing techniques that we have looked at?
How might they improve and aim for a better sound?
