We need to give credit where credit is due.
If we do not cite our sources we can be accused of plagerism.
Plagerism is when you take other peoples work and pass it off as your own.
People can get expelled from school and fired from jobs etc. A periodicals are souces of information that are published weekly, monthly, etc. such as newspapers or magazines. What is a Works Cited:

The first step is to cite the author. You give the last name first comma and then the author's first name period.
Then you give the name of the article in quotations followed by a period.
After that you put the name of the magazine italicized and followed by the month and the year.You write the month in abbreviated form. But if it is issued weely you put the exact date.ex. 19 February 2010
Then you put a colon after the date and then the page number. You put a period after the page number. Finally you put the medium which is Print and end the citation with a period.
