Insurgent - Veronica Roth
Picks up right after the first book, Divergent.
Society is split up in to five different factions - Abnegation, Dauntless, Candor, Erudite, and Amity.
Follows the story of Tris and Tobias (aka Four) in the wake of the Erudite attack. At the start of the book, they're taking shelter with Amity.
Inciting Incident
The thing that sets the action moving in this book is the Erudite attack on Amity.
The Erudite are looking for Tris because of her Divergence.
Less than a day before this, Tris found out that Marcus, Tobias's father, has knowledge of information her parents fought and died for against the Erudite.
Rising Action
Tris, Tobias, Caleb (Tris's brother) and some others escape Amity headquarters and end up in the factionless part of the city.
Among the people there, someone important from Tobias's past shows up with an offer.
After moving along from the factionless, they seek shelter at Candor headquarters.
Erudite's main form of attack is simulations.
An earlier attack left multiple Dauntless open to these simulations, and only one thing can stop the nightly killings - Tris handing herself over.
At Erudite, multiple experiments are run on Tris, so Jeanine can find out how to control Divergent.
Falling Action
Tobias breaks Tris out of Erudite headquarters.
In the old Abnegation sector, the factionless and loyal Dauntless have gathered in order to plan a counter attack.
Marcus, however, wants to recover the information that Tris's parents wanted.
Tris chooses blood over faction and betrays Tobias to help Marcus get the information.
Along with Marcus, Tris made it in to Erudite headquarters and recovered the information. The information being a video that explains why the factions exist: to keep a select group of people safe, away from the rest of the world. And it tells everybody who is going to lead them out of the city: the Divergent.
Tris is a major character in this book. The story is told from her point of view, and most of the conflict stems from her being a dangerous Divergent.
Peter was a minor character in this story. In the first book, he was Tris's main competitor during initiation. He stabbed another initiate in the eye because he was losing, and is generally just not a nice person. However, at one point in this book he has a change of heart.
At Candor, Tris and Tobias are interrogated. It becomes common knowledge that they're Divergent. After this, a meeting with the Erudite makes them feel threatened, and the Dauntless end up leaving Candor headquarters and taking their own home back.
External Conflict
Man Vs. Man
A war is being fought between the factions: Erudite and their leader's personal army versus the Dauntless that stayed loyal to Tris.
Internal Conflict
Man vs Grief, Man vs Alliance
Tris can't decide who she wants to fight for or why she wants to do it. When faced with important decisions she has a hard time choosing what she wants to do. Also, she's constantly regretting something she had to do to save herself.
Before she's supposed to be killed, it's revealed to Tris who helped with the experiments - Caleb, her own brother, who was an Erudite transfer.

"'I was always in Erudite,' he says softly. 'Even when I was supposed to be Abnegation.'" (368)
Divergent followed the story of Tris, who was born in Abnegation (the selfless faction) and transferred to Dauntless (the brave faction.) She was special - she was Divergent, which meant she fit in to multiple different factions. Since Divergence is viewed as illogical, this made Erudite (the "wise" faction) pretty mad, and caused them to use Dauntless to attack Abnegation, wiping them out.
