Specifically started on twitter as a hashtag #BlackLivesMatter by Alicia Garza after the Trevyon Martin case
This movement wants to stop police brutality as well as mistreatment of transgendered, women, black queer.
They also want to end racial profiling, mass incarceration of African Americans and militarization of U.S Police Department
If you want to learn more information about the movement you can sign up to

Family Tree
I wanted to make this piece intimate and the best way to do so was to relate it to family.
However I didn't want the family portrait to cover up the articles of the Black lives Matter movement

The portrait is put in the front to get people engaged and not be intimidated by the many articles.

I have black light bulbs in the families eyes because they represent their ideas that are overlooked for the simple fact they're a different color.

Unity
I wanted to visualize this idea again that yes we are the different but we all are connected, we all have the same origin.

The idea of painting the tree was to visualize something that is very similar to humans which is nature.

Nature, Specifically leaves are different from each other however they come from trees. They all share the same root/family.
