What is the Higgs Boson?
The higgs boson is a particle that gives mass to other particle. The higgs boson is smaller then a atom. The boson particle is in all forces except for gravity.
How to find the higgs boson
It is very difficult to find the higgs boson with the equipment we have now. Because the higgs boson has so much mass compared to other particles it takes alot of energy to create it. This is why we are now using the hadron collider. This is the equipment we are using now to find it.
The hadron collider
The hadron collider has enough energy to make the higgs boson.On the 2 ends of the 17 mile tube, it smashes particles together to find the higgs boson.So there will be a small chance that the higgs boson will apear.
The higgs boson was discovered on July 4 2012. On october 8th 2013 the nobel prize in physics was given to francois englert and peter higgs "for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider"

How does the higgs boson relate to the big bang?
13.7 billion years ago the big bang sent massless particles through-out space. When the universe started to from, particles acquired mass from the higgs field, bunched up to create, composite particles and eventually atoms. So the higgs boson is inside an atom.
The higgs bosons nickname is the god particle
The higgs boson is named after Peter Higgs becasue he is the person who purposed the idea of this particle in 1964.
The hadron collider costed 6 billion dollars to make.
