Heart attacks often start with pressure in the center of the heart.

Also shortness of breath without chest pain.
Other signs incude breaking into sweats, nausea, or being lightheaded.

If one of these arteries or branches becomes blocked suddenly, a portion of the heart is starved of oxygen, a condition called "cardiac ischemia."
If cardiac ischemia lasts too long, the starved heart tissue dies. This is a heart attack, otherwise known as a myocardial infarction -- literally, "death of heart muscle."
The effects of smoking can increses the rick of heart attacks.

Cigarette smoking increases the risk of coronary heart disease by itself. When it acts with other factors, it greatly increases risk. Smoking increases blood pressure, decreases exercise tolerance and increases the tendency for blood to clot.
