BEFORE
NOW
COMICS ARE UNDER ATTACK!!!
In the early 1940s many parents complained that comics were to violent for kids. They even had comic book
fire burning
events in the public! Parents were told to read the comics before they gave it to their kids to make sure it was "safe" to read. Parents were afraid that the comic books would influence their kids to do bad things.
MARVEL is Born
In 1960, Stan had been writing comics for 20 years but not many kids read them anymore. Stan was going to quit. But right before Stan was going to tell his boss that he was going to quit his boss offered him a new story to write. His boss wanted him to make a comic that included many superheroes working as a team. Stan was fascinated by the idea so he decided to stay. That same year they changed the name of Timely comics to
MARVEL
.
MARVEL COMICS

Stan said he came up with the idea of spider-man after he watched a fly climb up a wall. But he couldn't think of a name for it. In 1962 the company sold thirteen million comic books from MARVEL's new group of superheroes.
