Opening Paragraph Worksheet

Instructions:. Copy and paste the following text into a document or create a document that contains the same information.

Follow the steps outlined in the lesson to write an opening paragraph for your argument.
1.Write your claim in the space below.

Books should not be banned from society. Books are peoples way to escape reality for just a moment time.

2.Write your counter claim in the space below.

Books shouldn't be banned from society. But, some books have suggestive content or profanity.

3.Use the strategies you have learned for writing a strong opening paragraph to brainstorm ideas:
•Hook:

By banning books, it creates a very negative effect on kids and possibly even eliminate the teachings of life lessons for students.

•Bridge:

Going through life without the knowledge of what else is out there besides "rainbows and lollipops" can be pretty detrimental, as kids would not be able to handle life too well in the real world, if the whole time when they were younger they were being protected from all the "bad things". Many people decide to do what they think is best for the safety of children, but sometimes it harms them in more ways than helping them.

•Bridge:

But, when you keep the so-called negative parts of the books in, kids gain knowledge of what and what's not good to do, say, or act.
