Animal Abuse Aproximatly 5-7 million pets are taken into shelters anually. The number of pets are almost evenly devided between pets taken from abusive environments and pets surrenndered to the shelter. Over half of these pets that are rescued are Euthanized-Somewhere between 3 and 4 million. Only 10-20% of animals are aquired from a shelter And more than 20% of people who adopt pets from a shelter bring them back Five out of ten dogs and seven out of ten cats are euthanized simply because there is no one to adopt them One study showed that 70% of animal abusers also had records for other violent crimes. The Problem Solutions One solution is to have harsher punishment for people who do abuse animals Another solution is to make sure the people who adopt or buy pets know what they're getting into. This can be done by:
Having a home check
Having some sort of manditory
training program
Background check
