Where do American Black Bears Live?
American black bears live only in North America. They typically live in largely forest areas. These forests produce fruits and nuts that bears like to eat. Other animals such as deer, moose, and caribou live in black bear's habitat. Black bears need streams to drink water and to cool off. They need large trees for cubs to climb for saftly.

What do American Black Bears Look Like?
Even though they are called "American Black Bears'', they can be different colours. They can be black, brown, or white. They have round eyes, sharp claws, and popped out noses. Adult female bears weigh between 45 to 70 kilograms. Adult male bears weigh between 70 to 150 kilograms. They grow between 5 to 6 feet tall.
What do American Black Bears Eat?
American black bears like to eat almost anything. But they mostly eat plants. They eat plants such as berries and nuts. They also eat other animals such as deer, rabbit, fish, and frogs. They love to eat honey and bees.

American black bears have very few predators.
They can kill each other. Wolves can hunt
bears to eat. Humans are also their
predators, because they hunt them for
their coat and gall. Diseases can kill bears too. Cubs may be killed by an adult male bears.

American black bears have sharp claws for digging, climbing trees, and catching their preys. They have great sense of smell. This helps them to find their preys and predators. They can smell something more than a mile away! Black bears are very smart. They can remember places where they can find lots of food. They also remember the way to return home.

Themselves to survive in Their Habitat?

American black bears hibernate in winter, because it's too cold for them to survive. They usually hibernate in caves. Before they hibernate, they eat a lot of food so it keeps them fat and warm during hibernating. They stand on their back legs to get a better view of what they are smelling.

Black bears are omnivores, which means they eat plants and other animals. They are at the very top of the food pyramid because they are the tertiary consumers. Tertiary consumers eat secondary consumers. So they are carnivores or omnivores.
