Transcript of Feminist Analysis: Beyonce'

“Driver roll up the partition please, I don’t want you seeing Yonce on her knees.” This line features in popular song ‘Partition” by Beyoncé. Just one of the many explicit lyrics by self acclaimed feminist leader.Although these lyrics are self explanatory, we have to wonder why someone who claims to be a feminist is advertising such sexual messages.Surely she should be be advertising powerful lyrics supporting women.
Definition Of Feminist:
The theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.

“Think like a queen. A queen if not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” - Oprah W
“Music is a product, women are used to sell this product and the primary target audience for media companies are men. So, by that reasoning, female artists who assume that they have full control of their sexuality and are supposedly empowered are still being manipulated by men.”
Feminist Analysis: Beyonce'
The self-objectification of women in the pop music industry is demeaning to women, but is the pressure to conform to this standard caused by society? Can we criticize their work or should we be taking a look at ourselves first?
Beyonce claims to be a strong feminist leader but contradicts feminist messages. The content in her latest album is demeaning to women, as it sexualises women to be an object only of pleasure to the male.I think that Beyoncé Knowles, is manipulating everyday people to enjoy her music, without even realizing the content of the music.
Said by Barker, A “more professional, confessional and powerful than anything the singer has released in the past.” She is such a popular women in the music industry and people enjoy her music, without even realising how desensitised to the sexual content included in all of her new songs we have become.
So is Beyoncé , the “independent women” she titles herself as , or the feminist leader she believes she is ? This prezi will be an analysis of whether Beyoncé’ Knowles is a positive feminist role model or not and are women degrading each other because they feel inferior to men?

Yes , her beauty , her voice and her fame is undeniable to most. But, is the extent she goes to further her fame immorally wrong ? The image she has established for herself seems impeccable to most, but why are people not questioning her lack of clothing where in clips we see her close to naked? Or her lyrics that talk about women doing everything possible to meet the needs of men and make them feel empowered. As she claims to be a feminist leader I amongst many others, would expect her music to empower women , or to at least demand equality.
However she is doing what true feminists are against; giving men empowerment over women. The article "Is Beyoncé a feminist" , discusses how different racial groups view feminist leaders and how white people choose not to see Beyoncé as a feminist leader because of her ethnicity and skin color. I see this as an excuse to mask the fact that she does not hold the values of a feminist.
Some of the worlds most influential feminists now are black
women such as Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama. It is not skin color that restricts women from being feminists it is the values and the messages they portray and believe in . Never would we ever see Michelle Obama make an honest attempt at re enacting Beyonces video clips . Why? Because what message would the First Lady be sending to all women out there if she is half naked caressing a male? I know not only women but men such as her husband Barack Obama would not be impressed because she is such an influential role model , she has to be respectable and have decency.

“I knew when you were little girls, you dreamt of being in my world, don't forget it , don't forget it , respect that , bow down bitches.” Bow Down - Beyoncé.These lyrics just support reinforcing negative connotations whereas a real feminist would not rely on these kinds of distasteful lyrics to present a message. This song was released and the amount of criticism it got was immense , particularly making the list on idolator.com where they sum up Beyonces 10 shadiest moments , the release of bow down was number 2 on the list clearly showing just how negatively the song was viewed.Danielle Young a lifestyle editor on the page hellobeautiful.com , expresses great opinions in the article as to what is it that Beyonce wants. “She brainwashed many of us into thinking we ran the world. Now, she wants those empowered sisters to take a break from running things and take a knee instead.
Although I will admit I listen to Beyonce's music ,I, like most teenagers do with no harmful intentions we listen to it because of the sound and the rhythms. Just because I listen to her album does not necessarily mean I do not believe in feminism as its just a sound to me I do not critically analyze it. This is where I think we have become desensitized to such sexual content , we are able to listen to this and sing lyrics from her songs such as, “Can you eat my skittles , it’s the sweetest in the middle.”
Gruber E (et al) stated , “There is growing concern about young people's exposure to sexual content through television and other electronic media and about its potential effects on their sexual attitudes, beliefs and behaviors”.

Everyone has different interpretations of what is a feminist. I personally believe it is someone who demands equality between men and women, someone who does not shy away from standing up and conquering for women, and most importantly someone whose message teaches and inspires other women to expect the same, as we are not inferior to men, we are equal and we have the freedom to express our equality.
I personally find Beyonce’ someone I do not regard as a feminist. Although she is famous and undeniably beautiful these are not the attributes of a feminist. Her lyrics talking about women pleasuring males making them superior over women , her video clips where we see her half naked caressing a male and dancing erotically all to meet his sexual needs. It is not by color I decide not to categorize her as a feminist , as I feel there are many dark skin women who have empowered women, my most iconic feminist being Oprah Winfrey.
As women need to start encouraging each other , they need to work together to rebel against stereotypical theories that mean are the superior gender and women are the inferior. Women need to first overcome fighting with each other, and unite to work together for a future where gender restricts you in no ways.
