WEBINAR: Make the Most of the
CUNY Big Apple Job & Internship Fair

Get Ready, Get Set: Before the Fair
It's Go Time: During the Fair
Last But Not Least: After the Fair
Pointers from the Pros:
The Recruiter's Perspective

Job Search Toolkit:
Resumes -
Summary with objective, rather than a cover letter
Get a review, take more than you think you'll need
Unless you have experience, 1 page is best. If more than a page, include page#'s and name on both pages

Research and Pre-Registration:
1. Review list and choose targets
2. Research target companies
3. Prepare questions, discussion points
4. Pre-Register (if applicable)

Develop Your Pitch:
Your response to: "Tell me about yourself"
Your own commercial
Basis for your personal brand

Attire For Hire:
Plan in advance
Suits are required
Comfy, but professional shoes
Portfolio or briefcase

Review Floorplan:
Late additions or cancellations
Map out your mission

Work it!
Be patient, calm, composed
Gather info, take notes
Be open-minded

Approach every employer with energy & enthusiasm
Confidence just like job interviews
Make yourself memorable
Firm handshake & smiles

Thank You means a lot:
Send follow-up note within 1-3 days
Remind them about yourself
What if not interested?

Online Applications:
Do as instructed, then follow up
Strategy:
Follow their lead
LinkedIn works wonders!

Refusal to accept resumes/direct all candidates to apply online:
Employment regulations, data tracking
Could still make notes of strongest candidates
Do as instructed, but request contact info to follow-up
Give them your card

Do your homework!
Never ask what the company does!
Spend that quality time talking about yourself
Impress with intelligent questions
Get there early and avoid lunchtime if at all possible
Don't just get the freebies or candy and run
Actually follow-through!
What's the point of collecting business cards otherwise?
Be pro-active but not annoying
