Transcript of FILM STUDIES
shot is a series of frames, that runs for an uninterrupted period of time
the long shot
(often used as an establishing shot)
the full shot
,(figure shot, complete view, medium long shot)
This will give a different experience and emotion
The camera angle marks the specific location at which a movie camera is placed to take a shot
the medium shot
mainly used for a scene when it is desirable to see the subjects' facial expressions in the context of their body language
tightly frames a person or an object to see full expression
the extreme long shot

In my humble opinion and personally for my use and amusement I find lighting is one of the appealing tool to create a meaning in the film and setting the mood
for shooting a film creating a meaning "where is the scene takes place"
The use of one

Costume simply refers to the clothes
that characters wear.

some aspects of Aesthetics
Sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film:
voices of characters
sounds made by objects in the story
music represented as coming from instruments in the story space ( = source music)
Diegetic sound is any sound presented as originated from source within the film's world
Digetic sound can be either on screen or off screen depending on whatever its source is within the frame or outside the frame.
Another term for diegetic sound is actual sound
Diegesis is a Greek word for "recounted story"
The film's diegesis is the total world of the story action
Sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action:
sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect
Non-diegetic sound is represented as coming from the a source outside story space.
The distinction between diegetic or non-diegetic sound depends on our understanding of the conventions of film viewing and listening. We know of that certain sounds are represented as coming from the story world, while others are represented as coming from outside the space of the story events. A play with diegetic and non-diegetic conventions can be used to create ambiguity (horror), or to surprise the audience (comedy).
Another term for non-diegetic sound is commentary sound.
Pleasing for eye, translated as enjoyment
Each genre has their own signature of visual representation
Horror- dark cold colors
Comedy -bright color, happy colors
always yellow :)

HOW MEANING IS CREATED IN FILMS
So, how it helps to create a meaning in a film?
Mise-en-scene is a King of the Visual Meaning of the film
as it is everything what you see on the screen, in each and every shot.
and what you see is there for a PURPOSE!! to make you understand what you see
I will refer my words only to a good assembled movie since now
and to create a meaning for you and your friends
So, how the meaning is constructed in a film
(mesa-an-scene, set, character/ actors, props, colour, )
(angles, composition, continuity, narrative, genre, symbolism)
ear/ emotion/mood reception
(dialogue, music, ambiance, sound effects )
be ready to train your stamina with laughter
Don't forget to turn off the lights for a better effect
prepare the napkin for your eyes
Don't worry to much
they are safe and sound
Your eyes are good receivers so they percieve the meaning created by
of the Meaning in the body of film which keeps its alive and drives feelings in the narrative .. Yuliya F
Gives the opportunity to fully show the act, event, phenomenon, as well as facial expressions, gestures and movements of the person to create installation metaphor, as if the point of view of the operator to combine with the point of view of a character, etc
For example a canted angle is "often used to portray the psychological uneasiness or tension in the subject being filmed". While used appropriately in some shots, of next clip, other shots (such as the one of the Taj Mahal) do not require the use of the canted angle and are actually (in my opinion) hindered by the use of them. The shot would have been fine in straight shot or maybe even a pan, but the director decided that an angled shot would be the best.
the range of theme are very versitile, as us humans are very complicated and polyhedral , teeming with lots of different feelings
Music is a hook, which can access the right feeling straight away. Different type of music has their own hooks, and each knows where to find and catch the right rare "big fish of emotion"... Yuliya F
Plays a big part in creating a meaning through the words and the information it carries about the story and characters
Pan & Shaky Cam
some good camera moves, angles and shots
gives the 3D life in the movie, make it more real
Sound effects tickle our nerves and tune us in a depth of adrenalin and high emotions, wakes us up
just very cool movie with fantastic angles which showed the quirkiness and belittleness of life circumstances
Genre it is the taster, the expectation of what kind of meaning s going to be performed
the parts of the environment (physical, environment, historical, etc.) that surround something such as a word, passage, or work of art and can throw light on its meaning
they can be of different length in order to create special meaning to specific information such as
good camera movement and shots
Surrealist filmmakers sought to re-define human awareness of reality by illustrating that the "real" was little more than what was perceived as real; that reality was subject to no limits beyond those mankind imposed upon it
experimental or innovative
The avant-garde pushes the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm
Themes are stitches of the film, without them there is no life of emotions and sense in movies
Their main purpous to touch our souls and connect us with our genuine emothions within us, based on our experience.
Something that familiar from our lives, that unites us and a film
It is the feel to the film, to how character feels, or how much of the volume of tension in the situation
How we can implement this into reality by using some thechical equipment . It is a lot of ways we can do to achive the certain feel to it, nut i give couple of examples. Here they are
It was some sort of female gaze going on :)
here some modern surrealism. I liked it
Like this one for example with Jack Nicholson
every story has
The protagonist is the main character in a story, novel, drama, or other literary work, the character that the reader or audience empathizes with. The antagonist opposes the protagonist. In the most archetypical narratives, this boils down to bad guy vs. good guy
Hopefully you understood what I meant with all this meaning business.
Thank you Barrington for your time and that you looked at it. Yuliya F
please press continue.. i mean continue...please
Not to forget about background artist. They can create a lot of meaning.
By the way sick story in this next one, but well done conducted. Theme of survival :) at the end
My little suggestion of a watchable movie:), must see for a filmmaker.
"Living in oblivion" about film making process. Hope you find it a good film to have on your list of suggestions;)
I had to learn nearly everything in order to come to the end and understand that i want to do it completly different, but there is no time...
