Transcript of Propp

He was born in April 17th 1895 in St. Petersburg Russia to a German family. He analysed folk tales and legends and found there were 8 main characters. Propps Theory Hero Reacts to the donor, weds the princess. Villain Struggles against the hero. Princess The hero deserves her throughout the story but is unable to marry her because of an unfair evil, usually because of the villain. The hero's journey is often ended when he marries the princess, thereby beating the villain. Dispatcher Character who makes the lack known and sends the hero off. Donor Prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object. Father Gives the task to the hero, identifies the false hero, marries the hero, often sought for during the narrative. Propp noted that functionally, the princess and the father cannot be clearly distinguished. False Hero Takes credit for the hero’s actions or tries to marry the princess. Helper Helps the hero in their quest. In Enrique's 'Hero' video the lead singer is the hero who is on a quest to escape from the villain and his gang after stealing his money with his princess. Although the hero succeeds in marrying his princess, his quest fails as he is shot by the villain. In Olly 's video 'Troublemaker' the hero is the lead singer who is on a quest to get the princess. The villain of the video is the guy who slaps the princesses bottom as he struggles against the hero. The helper and dispatcher of the video is Flo Rida as he is giving moral support to the hero.
