To know the importance and uses of the Non-Prose Materials/Graphics
To know how to interpret Charts and Graphs
IDENTIFY WHAT KIND OF
NON-PROSE MATERIAL IS THIS.
Non-prose materials/graphics are composed of graphs, bars, tables, charts, diagrams, illustrations, drawings and maps. They play a very significant role in academic, technical, scientific and even in our daily living. They make ideas easier to understand.
IMPORTANCE OF GRAPHICS
1.Tables, graphs, and charts deliver information more quickly than ordinary text can. In a TV schedule, you can find almost immediately what is playing on channel 10 at noon. Reading through several paragraphs for the information would take much longer.
2.Maps and diagrams can show information impossible to put in print. Just imagine trying to use words to describe the shape of Philippines and the relative locations of Davao.
3.Graphics have another advantage. For most people, pictures are easier to remember than words.
and graphs are often used interchangeably but a chart is more precisely a figure that display relationship that are not plotted on a coordinate system. Commonly used charts include pie charts, organization charts, flow charts, tree charts, and pictorial charts (pictogram).
translate numbers to picture. Plotted as a set of points on a coordinate system, a graph shows the relationship between 2 variables. Graphs are especially useful for displaying comparisons, changes over time, patterns or trends.
display exact quantities, compare sets of data, and present information systematically.
Maps are especially useful for showing comparisons and for helping users to “visualize” position, location, and relationships among complex data.
