The Klans
The first Klan was founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee, by six veterans of the Confederate Army. The name probably originated from the Greek word kuklos which means circle, suggesting a tight group or band of brothers.

Kladd - "conductor", in charge of initiating new members

In 1915, the second Klan was founded in Atlanta, Georgia. Starting in 1921, it adopted a modern business system of recruiting and grew rapidly nationwide at a time of prosperity.
In the third and final KKK group, "Klu Klux Klan" name was used by a numerous independent local groups opposing the Civil Rights Movement, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. During this period, they often forged alliances with Southern police departments, as in Birmingham, Alabama; or with governor's offices, as with George Wallace of Alabama.

Yellow dog - a hazing ritual similar to the type used in college fraternities; when practiced by imperial officers, called the Royal Order of the Purple Dog.
Code Words
A.Y.A.K. or Ayak - "Are you a Klansmen?" to be answered with below.
A.K.I.A. or Akia - "A Klansmen I am"; these were code words for Klansmen meeting in strange surroundings. They would be inserted into common conversion, as for instance "Does a Mr. Ayak live in this neighborhood" to be responded by "No, but a Mr. Akia does." The password would then be accompanied by a secret handshake or other sign of recognition.
K.I.G.Y or Kigy - "Klansman, I greet you"
S.A.N.B.O.G. or Sanbog - "Strangers are near, be on guard"
Itsub - "In the sacred unfailing bond", a correspondence sign-off
Sor - "Sign of recognition.
C.L.A.S.P. - "Clannish loyalty a sacred principle"
C.A.B.A.R.K. - "Constantly Applied By All Real Klansmen"
O.R.I.O.N- Our Race Is Our Nation.
L.O.T.I.E or LOTIE- Lady Of The Invisible Empire

Well there were many people included and you may have heard of some of them. Harry S. Truman the Missouri politician who became president in 1945 dallied with the Klan briefly. Warren G. Harding was 29th President of the United States, though there have been rumors about his membership, they are largely unsure.
The KKK was the most racist, violent, and had the most hatred for primarily African Americans, but all races that weren't white, male, christians. They would shoot, burn, hang, torture, and brutalize people who weren't, in their eyes, the perfect race.

These people believed that White, Male, Christians were the superior race and that no one should have the same rights as them. So, to make sure African Americans knew what they were trying to get across, they started the KKK. It first started out as a peaceful thing, but when they started expanding, it went downhill. When the third KKK group was created in Birmingham Alabama, is when all of the severe crimes such as torture, destruction of property (KKK members would bomb African American Houses), and murders.
