• The Russian filmmaker, Sergei Eisenstein, is
credited with introducing montage.

• In the famous scene on the Odessa steps from
"Battleship Potemkin", he uses a series of short,
often disjointed, shots in order to create a sense
of heightened anxiety and disorientation.
• Today, we think of montage as a device used
to compress a lot of time into a much shorter
