Transcript of The Sultan of Swat, The Great Bambino, The Babe, George Herman Ruth

George Herman Ruth
02/06/1895 - 08/16/1948 Ruth was born in a rough town in Baltimore, Maryland. His life was particularly rough because of his mothers death when he was just a teenager. On December 26th 1919, the Boston Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. Making this one of the most controversial deals in the history of sports. After having many successful seasons as a Yankee and leading the league in homeruns almost every single year, Ruth knew his days as a slugger were numbered, and he knew that his main goal after his playing days were over, was to manage the Yankees, but things didn't go according to planned, because in 1935, Ruth was traded to the Boston Braves to be a player, as well as team vice-president. On August 16th 1948, Babe Ruth died of cancer. A ceremony was held in Yankee Stadium, and Ruth was later buried in New York. Ruth is 3rd all time in Major League Baseball in homeruns with 714 and is widely considered the greatest player to ever play the game.
