How to make a box and whisker plot! To create a box and whisker plot, you start by putting all of the numbers in order from least to greatest. Then you have to find the median(middle number)of your data. Now you have to find the 1st quartile Then you have to find the 3rd quartile. The 1st quartile is the number in between the lower extreme and the median. The 3rd quartile is the number in between the median and the upper extreme.
Now you have to find the lower extreme The lower extreme is the lowest number of the set of data. Now lets find the upper extreme. The upper extreme is the highest number in the set of data. Here is an example of a box and whisker plot.. Crane lake Minnesota Joplin Missouri Brownsville Texas . . . here is our data.
